Department of Planning

Under the direction of the Senior Planning Officer (Forward Planning), the post holder is accountable for the development, management and implementation of plans, policies and legislation to protect Bermuda's historic environment, including conducting research, consulting with the public and resolving objections to draft plans in accordance with development and local plans, planning legislation and policy.

The post holder is also accountable for making appropriate recommendations to the Development Applications Board and its Committee regarding planning applications affecting the historic environment. In addition the Post holder is accountable for administering the World Heritage Site Committee and Historic Building Advisory Committee, as well as historic building programmes such as the interest-free loan scheme.  As the need arises, the post holder is also accountable for assisting in the evaluation of planning applications not related to the historic environment.

Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Engineering, Historic Preservation or a related discipline with a minimum of three years’ relevant post-professional institute membership experience in an urban planning and/or conservation/preservation position managing the historic built environment. Membership in a professional institute such as the Royal Town Planning Institute, the Canadian Institute of Planners, the American Institute of Certified Planners or equivalent historic preservation, architectural or engineering professional institute is also required.
