Full-time contract: 36 hours a week, P/T hours may be available for the right candidate. Grade and Salary: Surrey PS7 – PS9, within the range of £ 27,099 - £ 38,476 per annum for 36 hours per week Monday to Friday, initially based at County Hall, Kingston upon Thames KT1 2DW but the location may change. About the role

We need a Landscape Planning Officer to take a strategic advisory role offering landscape advice across the authority's functions, including forward planning and development management, and to work in partnership on collaborative projects and initiatives with Surrey's district and borough councils. The post forms part of a small team with a wide remit that covers biodiversity, landscape and environmental assessment.

You will have the following core skills:

  • be able to give detailed and accurate advice on all matters relating to landscape and visual impacts of development to the Development Management Team covering minerals, waste and county developments
  • you will ensure that the County Council undertakes its duties and responsibilities in accordance with the provisions of relevant legislation and guidance by keeping up to date through training and research including the Basingstoke Canal Authority and the Surrey Hills AONB Board
  • have a sound knowledge and understanding of Landscape & Visual Impact Assessments (LVIAs) and be able to explain the principles to different stakeholders.
  • have a good understanding of planning policy and the planning system. You will be able to advise on the formulation of landscape policies for development plans and the Surrey Hills AONB Management Plan

The role is a professional development plan (PDP)-linked post with the potential for appointment across a series of grade scales. However, for this role a degree in a Landscape subject and some experience is required. Willingness and enthusiasm to learn, and empathy for the subject matter are also important.

To be shortlisted for interview your CV and personal statement will clearly show evidence of the core skills listed above and;

  • A degree in a Landscape related subject and Membership of a relevant professional body, e.g. the Landscape Institute.
  • Evidence of providing planning advice, LVIAs and working with Landscape Character Assessments.
  • Experience of working in or with a local authority.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
  • Ability to drive or otherwise visit inaccessible locations and to work outdoors.
