Kirklees Council is a Metropolitan Borough in West Yorkshire. The district includes the thriving University town of Huddersfield and stunning Pennine countryside. Diverse towns and villages range from Dewsbury at the edge of Leeds to Holmfirth at the edge of the Peak District. 

As one of the biggest planning authorities in the Leeds City Region we deal with around 4000 applications a year.  We have a wealth of listed buildings and conservation areas as well as countryside that falls into the Peak District National Park. We feel we are unique especially when you look at our aspirations regeneration of our urban areas. 

We are committed to helping the Kirklees’ economy grow. We have seen an increase in development activity recently and are looking at strengthening our development management team service. The Kirklees Local Plan was adopted on 27th February 2019. The Local Plan is now the statutory development plan for Kirklees. We have the second largest growth agenda in the Leeds City Region and are excited for big changes in our District.

About You 

We are looking for experienced and enthusiastic candidates, with a relevant professional qualification, extensive experience in development management, planning enforcement and team leadership. Take a look at our recently published Development Management Compliance Strategy which sets out our aims and priorities for Planning Enforcement in Kirklees. You would be tasked with leading the Compliance Team and would be empowered to make robust, clear, helpful but decisive decisions around enforcement action, particularly in relation to unauthorised construction site activity and any breaches of planning permissions. Working closely with Councillors to keep communities informed on progress on action, we put Members and their communities at the heart of our decisions.

You will also have experience of working in a sensitive political environment. If you are committed and have aspirations for greater things then this will be an ideal opportunity for you to use your skills and show that you can really perform. Travel is an essential part of this job and therefore it is essential that you hold a full and valid driving licence and it is expected that you will either use a council vehicle or your own car.
