Planning Officer- Implementation and Monitoring– Major Projects
Inward Investment and Growth

Externally funded until 31st December 2021

We are seeking an enthusiastic, pro-active individual to join the Inward Investment and Growth Service.   The Service has many exciting projects and this role offers a chance to gain valuable experience in a dynamic planning service working on national infrastructure projects. The delivery of infrastructure investment is key to achieving the Council’s pro-growth ambitions and goals and you’ll be part of a dynamic team working to transform the economy across Sedgemoor.

The Planning Service deals with a high caseload of important development projects including for example, Hinkley C, as a nationally significant infrastructure project. As one of the largest development projects in Europe, it is essential the Council oversees the implementation processes through active engagement and monitoring, to ensure compliance with planning obligations and conditions. This is essential to ensure public confidence in the effective oversight of the project, particularly as the project approaches ‘peak’. Work to monitor the Hinkley C Connection Group (National Grid) may also be required.

You will be responding to project related enquiries, providing advice and information on monitoring, and ensuring reporting against targets and key performance indicators, as well as challenging areas where improvement can be made. You will also advise on implementation matters and liaise with both internal and external bodies to enable the delivery of the project across the district. Your duties will include responding to impacts, conducting site visits, liaising with EDFE and National Grid, contractors, landowners, developers and the community, evaluating compliance and managing change.

Ideally the successful post holder will have an understanding of planning processes and be committed to undergoing training and development on compliance and monitoring. You will have excellent team working, administration and sound written and verbal communication skills, as well as being good at organisation and prioritisation. There is a requirement for you to be IT literate and able to use a variety of packages. You will need to understand Local Government practice and to keep the following informed, the Principal Planning Officer, Development Manager, Project Director and wider colleagues from enforcement, environmental health, planning policy, economic development in order to complete necessary tasks relating to project implementation and monitoring. Training will be provided for the successful applicant as required.
