The position is within the Planning and Enforcement Team that is within the Transport, Economy & Environment (TEE) business unit and your role will be instrumental in assessing and managing planning applications to supporting the future growth of Buckinghamshire. You will help to manage minerals; assess and facilitate waste developments; and consider the County Council's and future Unitary's major infrastructure projects to support growth.

About the role
Day-to-day, you'll work with a wide range of contacts including developers, agents, members, stakeholders, fellow County Council officers, the District Councils, Government agencies and others to process, advise on and determine planning applications, including those for the County Council's own development proposals.
You will participate in negotiations with developers, their clients and appointed professional agents throughout the planning process. Key to the role will be to support Senior Officers on planning and development related matters at public meetings, local area forums, Parish Council meetings and other committees and panels, providing professional advice and guidance to members and offices of the relevant authorities as required as well as taking application to planning committee.
You will have experience working as a planner having worked in a similar role and have knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, best practice, systems, policies and procedures. A relevant degree (or equivalent) is desirable, as would membership of a suitable professional body. Experience in Minerals and waste planning would be a benefit but is not essential. However, it's more important that you're adept at working with diverse people; have excellent report writing skills; can organise a busy workload; have experience of planning committees and their deadlines; and have an enthusiasm to learn and take on new challenges.
Where our roles are customer-facing and you are required to speak to members of the public, the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the role.
