Head of Development Management

Hounslow is the West London borough with cranes on the skyline, where development is happening, and the challenges and opportunities for planners are immense. You may have passed through it on the plane, train, tube or motorway, but stop and take a look. As neighbours of Heathrow we need to plan for development around the airport, particularly since the recent announcement on the third runway. We have high housing targets to achieve, new schools to place children in and need to create opportunities for employers who want to locate in our well located borough. We have recently moved into our new Civic Centre as part of the town centre regeneration, with phased construction of over 900 homes on the current Civic Centre site. Development such as this is common and must be balanced against green belts, listed buildings, conservation areas and River Thames frontage that need protecting.

A Head of Development Management is needed to lead our busy, award winning and ambitious Development Management and Enforcement team. You will work closely with colleagues on the councils’ growth and regeneration agenda, lead negotiations with developers on major sites and ensure that the public realm is enhanced through use of planning powers. You will also be responsible for the Council’s pre-application and Planning Performance Agreement service ensuring its quality and added value in the growth agenda.

Ability to work to seek innovation, embrace change, and to be able to work with all sections of the residential, business and political community are essential qualities.
