Salary range: Grade F £26,470 – Grade H £37107
- Flexible work from home/office hours, as and when it suits you!
A new beginning
Somerset West and Taunton is one of the largest and most fascinating local authorities in the country. From the coastal communities in the north of the area, including Hinkley Point C nuclear power station – Europe’s largest construction project - through the national park of Exmoor, the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty of the Quantock Hills down to the historic county town of Taunton, the opportunities and challenges are immense.
The new council was formed earlier this year from Taunton Deane Borough Council and West Somerset Council. It follows a period of significant change in approach, staffing, structure and even office space.
There is a fresh vigour and ambition under a new CEO, with innovative strategies emerging to make Somerset West and Taunton a great place to live, work and invest. A key part of this vision is to deliver quality, pioneering new infrastructure and major developments.
We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our forward-thinking and dynamic Development Management department. We are an ambitious authority looking to deliver growth, provide innovative and high-quality developments.
Our structure is somewhat different to what you would be used to, gone is the multiple tiers of planning titles replaced with a progressive structure that allows you to work as a Planning Specialist in your own right at different levels within.
We have opportunities in Development Management for what you will be more familiar known as Planning Officers through to Principal Planners. The salary ranges for these Planning Specialist positions are from: Grade F £26,470 – Grade H £37107
Becoming a Planning Specialist (Grade F) will mean that you will manage a caseload of planning applications and on occasion need to present to planning committee.
At the higher grade (H) the complexity of applications will be greater plus the need to appear at committee and a greater likelihood that you would be required to give evidence to planning appeals too. There may also be mentoring and supporting responsibilities that go with this more senior role as well.
We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate an adaptable and flexible approach, a positive attitude and an ability to work on your own initiative. You will need to be organised and self-motivated but also a good team player.
The opportunities are endless, we really can take your unique situation and identify a clear career path around other responsibilities you may have outside of work.
2019 will be a very special year for Taunton as we host the cricket World Cup with many games and nationalities spanning across the summer!
Known for its famous Cricket ground, the centre of Taunton is a diverse beautiful town with a river running directly through. It has many quaint cafes, bars and restaurants which make this a great place to live and work!
With our newly refurbished offices in Taunton Centre and the mainline Train Station just two minutes’ walk from our offices, you can go direct to Exeter in 23 minutes, Castle Cary in under 40 minutes and Bristol in just 30 minutes making working here hard to beat!
We are a new Local Authority who are building a new culture, that coupled with a genuine supporting of working from home/office this could be the perfect opportunity for you and your family.
