Planning and Compliance Officer

About Us:

Located at the very heart of London, the City of Westminster includes recognisable landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, Chinatown, Covent Garden, Trafalgar Square and Piccadilly Circus. With 11,000 listed buildings, 56 conservation areas and constant pressure for commercial and residential development, Westminster is one of the country’s most challenging and interesting places to develop your career in planning.

The Role:

Maintaining the unique identity of Westminster means ensuring property owners and developers adhere to planning regulations  ̶  and that’s the job of our 20-strong Planning Enforcement Team. Working in this diverse and fast-paced urban environment, you’ll undertake enquiries including service of s330 Notices prior to the drafting and arranging service of formal enforcement notices all within prescribed stringent timescales. There will also be opportunities to assist the Team in undertaking surveys, site visits, interviews and thorough research of records regarding alleged breaches of planning control.

About You:

You will need a degree or diploma in an area such as Law or Town Planning, ideally including some knowledge of planning law and its enforcement. An eye for detail and the ability to follow strict procedures in the serving of notices is essential. Well-organised and analytical, you’ll be proficient in using office IT. Good communication skills are also vital.

What We Offer:

If you’re as productive as you are ambitious and collaborative as you are enterprising, this is your chance to take real ownership of your work, right in the heart of iconic Westminster, a true ‘City for All’. This is a unique place where it all happens. And where it could all happen for you.

As a progressive and innovative organisation, we welcome applications from candidates keen to work in an agile environment with flexible conditions.
