An exciting opportunity has arisen within Transport Development Management (TDM) for an experienced transport or town planning professional to promote, shape and positively influence the key role that Transport plays in land-use planning in Bristol.

You will have a pivotal role in the planning process, collaborating with planners, architects, designers and engineers to exploit the opportunities that successful master-planning and connectivity of new developments can bring to the quality and health of our existing and future communities whilst challenging proposals that do not achieve these aims.

Bristol is currently experiencing considerable growth and with it increased demands for housing and employment. This is putting increased pressure on our existing infrastructure. You will be able to demonstrate a track-record in negotiating and securing infrastructure improvements through the planning process via planning obligations and conditions that effectively limit the negative consequences of new development.

Through placing public health at the heart of the agenda, you will help us deliver a city that is resilient to climate change and fosters patterns of movement and connectivity that enhance and encourage active travel and public transport use in line with our One City Plan and emerging Transport Strategy.

We are keen to hear from you if you can demonstrate an ability to perform this challenging role in a time-constrained and public-facing environment, whilst overseeing and steering the technical output of a sub-team of five staff in responding to the 1,500 consultations we receive each year from our planning colleagues. We are also particularly keen on those who can demonstrate experience of public inquiries.

In return, we offer a full range of employee benefits including training and development opportunities, flexible working hours, a competitive annual and flexi-leave entitlement, entry into the Local Government Pension scheme, mobile working, and public transport discounts.

For more information on this opportunity or an informal chat we would be happy to talk with you - please contact Laurence Fallon, Transport Development Manager on 0117 903 6846 or laurence.fallon@bristol.gov.uk if you are keen to find out more.

Closing date: 4 July 2019.

At Bristol City Council, we value having a workforce as diverse as the City we serve.  We therefore welcome, develop and promote people from all sections of the community.
