In our brand-new offices in the centre of the town of Newcastle-under-Lyme we have a purpose-built facility that is home to no less than 4 public sector organisations – it’s a physical manifestation of Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council’s commitment to working in partnership, leading major regeneration programmes and its ability to translate good ideas into great outcomes.

We are in a very attractive and affordable part of the West Midlands with the Peak District and the Shropshire Hills on our doorstep and equidistant from Manchester in the North and Birmingham in the South.

Are you interested in:-

  • Enjoying getting involved in a diverse mix of urban and rural issues and meeting the challenges of the widest spread of affluence and deprivation in Staffordshire?
  • Enjoying the opportunity to play a key role in delivering an ambitious development plan programme?
  • Enjoying the challenge of joint working as part of the preparation of a Joint Local Plan which is addressing greatly increased housing needs and constraints such as Green Belt and development viability?
  • Enjoying the benefits of working in a small busy team, where your opinion will be highly valued and your enthusiasm, motivation and professionalism is important?
  • Enjoying the benefits of working for an authority committed to your training and development?

The Council is preparing a Joint Local Plan in partnership with the neighbouring authority of Stoke-on-Trent City Council, which will replace our Joint Core Strategy. Alongside this the Council is working to strengthen the area’s economic potential and participating in the Cheshire and Staffordshire Constellation Partnership to optimise the potential economic investment arising from the HS2 project. This provides an exciting opportunity for you to work with partner authorities and the Cheshire and North Staffordshire LEPs to support the development of a longer term growth strategy.

We are looking for either a Senior Planning Officer or a Planning Officer to fulfill a key role in the Planning Policy Team. If this appeals to you and you are a dynamic and enthusiastic town planner who is interested in planning policy work for a local planning authority and you are eager to play a key role in influencing the exciting changes ahead in the Borough and North Staffordshire, perhaps you’d like to come and work for us.

You should have knowledge of statutory planning and local government, and knowledge of a specialism within planning policy would be advantageous.

Appointment to either Senior or the Planning Officer post will be subject to assessment against the requirements of the person specification, through consideration of the application and at interview.

For an informal conversation contact either Jemma March (Planning Policy Manager) 01782 742477 or Guy Benson (Head of Planning) 07961 668246.
