Hays is delighted to be working in partnership with Epping Forest District Council (EFDC) to recruit a Planning Applications and Appeals Manager
EFDC are in the process of changing how they think about service delivery in the future and this role is a key part of that process. The district is facing an unprecedented period of growth, which will bring changes in demographics, in the types of services required and, in the ways, people access those services.
The drivers for change are:
- Customers – Building services around the people we serve
- Efficiency – Making the very best of our people, time and money
- Effectiveness – An agile flexible workforce achieving our ambitions and working together and in partnership
As a Planning Applications and Appeals Manager in the Council’s Development Management team, you will support the Development Management Service Manager, contributing to and help implement a strong vision for the service area which delivers ambitious, innovative and forward thinking approaches.
You will sign off and clear planning officer planning application reports and whilst not having your own case load, you will help contribute to the delivery of major applications, masterplans in accordance with a new local plan close to adoption, as well as any other future projects and other developments across the council. You will be involved with projects and decisions which will truly shape the future landscape of the area, playing a major role in shaping the future of Epping whilst performing a supervisory role for multiple professional town planners.
To be successful for this role you will need to have an excellent knowledge of planning legislation and current issues, be qualified to degree level and be eligible for membership of the RTPI. It is vital that you have experience dealing with major planning applications, appeals and had a background in Development Management within the public or private sector.
The ideal candidate will have excellent report writing skills and have good judgement when making supervisory decisions, therefore a prior role in a management position would be desirable but not essential. As a planning application and appeals manager, you will also be attending public forums and evening planning committees so require good interpersonal and presentation skills. You will also be assessed on how you embody the Council’s core Values and Behaviours.
In return EFDC are offering a competitive salary and excellent benefits package which includes flexible working arrangements and career and professional development.
