£37 - £40k + Benefits

The Atrium Building, Cannon Bridge House, 25 Dowgate Hill, London, EC4R 2YA

Historic England - We are the public body that looks after England`s historic environment. We champion historic places and help people understand, value and care for them. This is an exciting opportunity to help us shape fascinating historic places including Urban South Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Winchester, Oxford and the Chilterns. We recognise the importance of a healthy work/life balance and therefore offer flexible working patterns. We are proud to say that we recently won the Gold Award from MIND. We also offer a wide benefits package including a competitive pension scheme, a generous 28 days of holiday, corporate discounts, and free entry into English Heritage sites across the county.

Policy Planner - Working collaboratively within your area team you will take lead responsibility for providing expert planning policy advice to partners to help shape development plans across the region, including representing Historic England at Examinations in Public. You will also influence our input to major strategic projects such as those for the Oxford to Cambridge Arc; regeneration and town centre revitalisation such as The Gosport Heritage Action Zone; infrastructure schemes including road, rail and airport projects; and the protection of significant cultural landscapes such as the New Forest National Park and the Blenheim Palace World Heritage Site. You will help enhance and rejuvenate our historic places by shaping new developments. You will build partnerships with local authorities, communities and other organisations to contribute to planning strategies and outcomes. Through your work the historic environment will play a more vital and productive role in the life of the region.

If you are a policy planner, either with experience of the historic environment or an appetite to develop your expertise in this fascinating area of work, then we want to hear from you. With experience of preparing or helping to shape plans, and influencing stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes, you are also a strong team player with good interpersonal skills. Creative and dynamic, you enjoy working collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams. You may have a background in commercial practice, another statutory agency or a local authority and will be ready to move into a lead planning role.

Closing date: 22 September 2019.

Interview date: W/C 30 September 2019 in our London offices.
