SENIOR PLANNING OFFICER (Development Management)

Salary up to £38,600 per annum (depending on experience)

About us

Hertsmere Borough Council, located within southern Hertfordshire and only 12 miles from Central London, benefits from a combination of unique economic opportunities alongside a diverse range of towns and villages, with an extensive area of green belt.  As such the borough provides an exciting opportunity to experience all aspects of planning.

Hertsmere is in the process of preparing a positive vision for growth within the borough through our new Local Plan.  We are also working to provide a Joint Strategic Plan for the area and striving to deliver a quality, focused Development Management service which meets the needs of existing and future residents.

Our own offices benefit from being close to both the A1(M) and M25 whilst Elstree and Borehamwood Station lies within Zone 6 and provides a direct rail link to London St Pancras.

About the role

You will have shared responsibility for all aspects of development management processes inclusive of having your own caseload often dealing with more complex planning issues including pre-application and appeal work as required.  You will also be expected to assist and guide more junior members of the team as well as provide support to management staff.

About you

We want to show our residents and businesses that planners, with a positive focus on quality and infrastructure, can deliver change in a way that makes their lives better.  To do so, we are looking for a talented individual with drive, ambition and relevant expertise to deliver an excellent service, alongside a true desire to shape and improve the borough.

You will have a good knowledge of planning related legislation.  You will be a strong team player who can contribute positively to the team and be able to demonstrate initiative and good judgement in making recommendations on a wide range of planning matters.

You are capable of developing good working relationships with a range of stakeholders, including the need to respond

sensitively to the needs of the community and to deliver a service around the needs of our customers.

Further information

The post is offered on a full time, permanent basis (36 hours per week).

Benefits include 26 – 31 days annual leave (depending on the length of Local Government Service), local government pension scheme, flexible working hours, free car parking, free use of leisure facilities, cycle scheme, season ticket loans and access to a large staff roof garden.

Please click on the 'apply button' to apply or telephone 020 8207 7475 (24 hour answer service) for an application pack.  For further information on the borough and the benefits we can offer you please visit www.hertsmerecareers.co.uk
