Deputy Director of Planning

Salary: Band SS2 £68,526 to £74,175

Based: Town Hall Extension, Manchester, M60 2LA

Manchester has a clear vision to be in the top flight of world class-cities by 2025; a city that is thriving, full of talent, fair, a great place to live and connected. This ambition is underlined by a commitment to respond to climate change by tackling complex problems head on.

The Planning Service in Manchester has a key role to play in supporting this ambition through facilitating sustained economic growth and job creation that benefits everyone, to help deliver more housing with enough affordable housing for those who need it and to enable clean, safe and vibrant neighbourhoods. To support this a new senior role has been established; working to the Director of Planning, Building Control and Licensing; the post holder would be responsible for a significant part of the Development Management function, including Compliance, Technical Support and a new cross service specialist performance and monitoring team.

The role, one of two Deputy Directors, would be central to developing effective working relationships with major stakeholders including members and in ensuring the service is fully integrated to the workings of the Council.

You must be highly skilled and motivated, understand the dynamics of a major City and the opportunities and challenges this presents in delivering a highly performing planning service.    Being outcome focused you will need to demonstrate you have the necessary qualities – innovation, hard work and enterprise together with a thorough knowledge and background of planning in a local authority.

If you share Manchester’s clear ambitions to deliver economic sustainable growth and its values, we want to hear from you.

We are an Equal Opportunities Employer and we positively welcome applications from all candidates regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation.
