Career Grade Planners
1 x full time

Required as soon as possible
These are exciting but challenging opportunities within the Council’s Strategic Planning and Economic Development team for two enthusiastic, hard-working and well organised planners to work within the Development Plans Unit.
Bury is a great place to live and work. It has excellent access to wide areas of countryside whilst also including vibrant urban areas, including Bury town centre which, behind Manchester city centre and the Trafford Centre, is the third highest ranking retail centre within Greater Manchester.
These opportunities come at an exciting time to be involved in development planning with the Council looking to build on its previous successes with a range of key regeneration projects.
At the same time, Greater Manchester has ambitious aspirations for growth with Bury, alongside the other nine Greater Manchester districts, working collaboratively on the preparation of the groundbreaking Greater Manchester Spatial Framework – a joint statutory development plan for the sub-region which will be one of the key mechanisms for delivering this growth.
Alongside this, we are working on our own Local Plan that will set out more locally-specific planning policies and designations within the context of the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework.
Principally, the successful candidates will be responsible for a wide range of duties associated with the preparation of the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework, the Bury Local Plan and other associated planning policy work.
Candidates must be educated to degree standard or higher, and should have knowledge of and experience in working on planning policy matters and development plans.
The hours of work are 37 per week, Monday to Friday, subject to service requirements (Flexitime scheme in operation).
The salary range is Grade 8 to 12 £21,589 to £35,934 per annum. It is anticipated that an appointment will be made at either Planning Officer level £31,371 to £32,878 per annum, or Senior Planning Officer level £33,799 to £35,934, per annum.
For further information about the post, please contact a member of the Planning Policy Team at planning.policy@bury.gov.uk or on 0161 253 5550.
The closing date for applications is noon on Friday 25th October 2019.
