The City of Placemaking – Opportunity to Join the Development Plans Team

We are pleased to offer the opportunity to join the Development Plans Team at an exciting time in the development of planning and placemaking policy within the City of London. We are looking to appoint a Planning Officer on a fixed term contract for 18 months to work within the Team to help us progress the City of London’s Local Plan review and to assist with a range of other policy and strategy work.

The City Corporation adopted its Local Plan in 2015 and is now undertaking a full review to take the City’s planning and placemaking framework forward to 2036 in the context of the London Plan review and the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). This is an exciting time to join the Development Plans Team as we prepare our draft Local Plan for pre-submission consultation and public consultation and develop a forward looking and positive planning framework to maintain and enhance the City’s success.

You will be part of a team of four planning officers working under the guidance of the Development Plans Team Leader on the Local Plan review and will take responsibility for specific planning policy areas. You will have sound knowledge of plan-making procedures, together with experience of working in a town planning or related professional role, including the preparation of planning policy documents, related technical reports, sustainability appraisal and participating in public consultation exercises.

A degree in Town Planning or a related discipline, together with relevant experience and knowledge of the statutory plan-making process is required. You must have an ability to prepare clear and concise reports and be IT literate, with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and the use of databases.

Closing date: 12 noon, 21 October 2019.

Interviews will take place in the week beginning 4 November 2019.
