Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is a unitary authority based in the heart of the town centre offering traditional seaside living that makes it a great place to live and work. The Council are looking to appoint a Policy Planning Officer to deliver their direction on strategy and policy for the Southend new Local Plan. With the aim to enhance everyone’s career development and progression, Southend Borough Council are incredibly supportive in allowing people to work towards becoming a chartered town planner and provide a wide variety of training and development opportunities to aid this.

Your new role

This is a rare opportunity to join the Council as a Policy and Strategy Planner with career development on offer and the ability to become a chartered Town Planner. You will be involved with projects which will truly shape the future of Southend as a place, helping to deliver towards the Southend 2050 ambition.

Duties within this role include assisting with evidence preparation, planning policy formulation and responding to a wide range of consultations. This may also involve working with neighbouring authorities on several exciting projects in the wider area. With an exceptional rate of success seeing local plans and policies succeed throughout all stages, you will truly be able to create and change policy and strategy within Southend.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful for this role you will need to have a degree in town or urban planning, geography or similar. This will be an excellent opportunity for someone who has a passion for the built or natural environment through engaging with stakeholders and preparing planning policy.

A motivated and proactive individual who really wants to make a difference will be perfect for this role. You will be supported by a fantastic management team as well as peers who will push you to really get involved in preparing policy.
