We are actively recruiting for a Senior Conservation Planner to join RSPB Cymru's Policy & Advocacy Team and be part of our work to influence decision-makers to drive nature's recovery in Wales.

The Senior Conservation Planner will lead our engagement with development planning, environmental management frameworks and casework in Wales, seeking to ensure they are fit for the purpose of tackling the twin crises of biodiversity loss and climate change. You will work across teams to influence (inter alia) Wales' planning policy, the National Development Framework, the Wales National Marine Plan and Area Statements under the Environment (Wales) Act. You will line manage our Casework Officer and have oversight of RSPB Cymru's planning casework ensuring our engagement with developers and regulators aligns with national casework priorities and reflects Wales' unique policy context.

To be the ideal candidate you will have a degree or equivalent in a development planning- or environmental management-related subject. You will hold, or be working towards, chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI), or have equivalent professional experience.

You will have an understanding of planning and environmental management law, policy and practice including environmental assessment processes, and the opportunities and risks they present for wildlife. Knowledge of Wales' distinct legal and policy framework is also desirable.

You will be able to quickly analyse complex issues, be a great communicator, and have excellent negotiating and influencing skills. You will be able to manage your time and prioritise effectively, manage projects and take the lead in developing policy positions. You will have experience of working in planning or environmental management, and of line managing staff. You will understand how to influence policy and plans, and experience of campaigns is desirable. In short, you will be a passionate and proactive advocate who will seek out opportunities to champion the change nature needs to decision-makers, professional counterparts and the public.
