Planner/Senior Planner
East Staffordshire Borough Council
Up to £32,878 per annum
This is your chance to be at the heart of planning delivery, at a Borough Council that appreciates the value and impact of planning - from major residential and commercial propositions through to householder, agricultural and other applications.
As a founding member of the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership, East Staffordshire Borough Council is positive about planning. We are excited by the opportunities that can be captured through managing change. You will be joining a council with a strong local plan, adopted in 2015. We’ve also made 15 neighbourhood plans. We have top quartile performance in the determination of over 900 planning applications last year. What’s more, we can boast an enviable housing land supply, in excess of 6 years.
The Council will rely on your expertise in planning delivery to make sure customers benefit from seamless, excellent services. Your responsibilities will range from processing planning applications, through pre-application activities, to appeal casework, enforcement and monitoring. Legal compliance, efficiency and timeliness will be your watchwords. For example, you will ensure any appeal is handled efficiently - including appearing at planning hearings and inquiries as a professional expert witness.
Together with a relevant degree qualification, you’ll bring to the role previous experience in development control. Experience of handling major applications would be a real advantage, as would Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute. You will certainly demonstrate a flair for map reading, strong design awareness and detailed understanding of architectural drawings and plans. Computer literate, you will ideally be familiar with M3. A decisive individual with a focus on the team around you, you have good organising and negotiation skills.
Please note that a full driving licence and access to your own vehicle are essential. You will benefit from a Car Necessity Scheme allowance.
