Spatial Planning Policy Officer

£22,911 - £33,799

37 hpw. Part time and job share opportunities will be considered.

Based at Endeavour House, Ipswich

We are proud of the role we play in creating the environment, economy and communities for our districts. Babergh and Mid Suffolk have consistently been voted amongst the top places to live in the UK.

Working together across our councils and with our partners in the public, private and voluntary sectors, we provide excellent services to our 190,000 residents across Babergh and Mid Suffolk - working hard to provide homes, support our communities, boost local economy, protect our environment and keep our districts clean, tidy and safe.

We are now looking someone to join our team in Strategic Planning with the proper values, commitment and motivation to make a difference for our districts.

We are looking for a candidate who is motivated and interested in developing a Joint Local Plan for Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils, through to adoption and implementation.

Working in our Strategic Planning Team, the Spatial Planning Policy Officer will be expected to provide planning policy advice to interested parties, undertake the monitoring of data to inform the Annual Monitoring Report, and support senior officers in the preparation of the Joint Local Plan.

You will also work collaboratively across the two councils in supporting the development of strategies including housing and infrastructure, as well as working closely with councillors, neighbouring local authorities, Suffolk County Council and other infrastructure providers. Engagement with the community and supporting the preparation of Neighbourhood Plans is a key aspect of the role.

The post will also support the corporate objectives of the councils' Joint Strategic Plan.

We offer support and funding towards professional qualifications for example, financial contribution towards Royal Town Planning Institute membership.

The Spatial Planning Policy Officer post is career-graded, and we would encourage applications from those with limited planning policy experience.

Candidates looking to move to Suffolk may be eligible for a generous relocation allowance.

You will be based at our modern, air-conditioned head office in Ipswich, with a range of facilities and excellent travel links. We offer flexible working options, generous leave entitlement, access to the Suffolk Green Travel Plan and a pension scheme. We also offer a range of training and development and will give you all the support you need, for your career and wellbeing.

We are committed to agile and flexible working (subject to business need), with full time, part time or job share opportunities considered. Supporting equality and diversity, Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils provide opportunity and ambition for all, enabling and empowering our people to deliver the best possible results for our residents.

For an informal discussion, please contact Robert Hobbs via email: robert.hobbs@baberghmidsuffolk.gov.uk or call (01449) 724812.

If you are interested in this exciting opportunity, please apply online by visiting  and clicking on the 'Apply button'  which will take you through to our career pages on the Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils' website: www.babergh.gov.uk/council-business/careers

Closing date: 11 November 2019.
