About the Roles

Deputy Team Leader – Grade 14 (£42,734 -£44,691) Plus 10% Recruitment and Retention package and 6% Key worker bonus (Approx)

Croydon Council is an award winning Council. At this year’s RTPI Local Planning Awards we won the Award for Increased Housing delivery and Planning Permission of the year for the world’s tallest modular tower.  

We are looking to increase our permanent staff compliment to allow us to further enhance service delivery for our customers and to focus specifically on the realisation of sustainable growth, firmly embedded in high standards of design and the maximisation of social, economic and environmental benefits. 

We have an up to date development plan and are focussed on scheme delivery, using a wide range of development management and negotiation techniques to ensure that development is truly sustainable and contributes positively to the growth agenda – with all sharing the opportunities of that growth.

You will work in a vibrant and busy Development Management Service and will have the opportunity to deal with a wide variety of planning applications, appeals and pre application enquiries. The Borough is vary varied in character and includes Metropolitan Centre with an Opportunity Area, thriving District Centres, Strategic Industrial Locations, areas of Green Belt around the edge of the Borough and designated suburban areas for Focussed Intensification. The range of development enquiries and planning applications we deal with are therefore very broad. A successful candidate will have to be enthusiastic, motivated and demonstrate an understanding of planning policy and development management legislation, have good written and verbal communication skills and to be able to work to strict deadlines. 

As a Deputy Team Leader you will help one of the area team leaders effectively manage a caseload of approximately 2500 applications and pre-application enquiries annually and directly manage a team of approximately 4 Planning Officers and Senior Planning Officers which working on the most complex and strategically important developments in the Borough yourself. Candidates should have excellent planning knowledge and skills and be ready to manage and motivate a vibrant team and mentor them in their professional development.

As a Senior Planning Officer we are seeking to recruit staff who have experience of dealing with Major/complex Planning Applications and those looking to progress in their career.
