About the RTPI

The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) champions the power of planning in creating prosperous places and vibrant communities. Our 25,000 members are from the private, public and voluntary sectors. Using our expertise and research we bring evidence and thought leadership to shape public policy and thinking, putting the profession at the heart of society’s big debates. We champion a diverse and representative profession and set the standards of planning education and professional behaviour that give our members, wherever they work in the world, a unique ability to meet complex economic, social and environmental challenges. We are the only body in the United Kingdom that confers Chartered status to town and spatial planners – the highest professional qualification sought by employers.

Planning Aid England

Planning Aid England (PAE) is part of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI). We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to be actively involved in planning their local area. PAE staff work in close partnership with a network of member volunteers to deliver a range of services. The PAE Direct work stream provides expert, free and independent planning advice via the Planning Aid web resource and our e-mail advice service. The PAE Support work stream offers a programme of proactive advice and support to help individuals and communities to engage with the planning system, with further bespoke support for eligible individuals and communities. PAE also undertakes small amounts of consulting activity where this is consistent with our overall objectives.

This opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to help shape and deliver the RTPI’s commitment to empowering communities to engage in the planning system. You will be involved in all aspects of the PAE work programme including working to support regional volunteer task groups to deliver support to individuals and communities to take an active role in the planning system. You will also help in the provision of user friendly expert advice and guidance and contribute to continuing improvement of the volunteer and user experience of PAE.

You will have excellent up to date knowledge of the English planning system and practical experience of the full range of planning issues. This should include knowledge of development management, plan making and the planning process in general.

You will already be a Chartered member of the RTPI.
