You will play a vital role within the Planning Policy Team, contributing to the preparation and progression of the Development Plan for the Borough including the preparation, implementation, monitoring and review of the Council’s Development Plans and associated policy planning functions.

Involved throughout the priorities and projects within the team and its members, your ability to assimilate and analyse large amounts of complex issues, determine implications for the Council and prepare appropriate responses to include clear advice and proposals which are acceptable not only to senior officers but also to Councillors, other partner agencies and the local community will be vital.

Having excellent communication skills you will take a lead role in community engagement during the preparation of development plans including supporting the enabling and facilitating of neighbourhood planning and/or establishment of neighbourhood orders.

As part of apT you will also have the opportunity to support clients, in the creation of neighbourhood plans, and site representation outside of the borough.

You will have a degree or equivalent in Town and Country Planning, hold MRTPI Membership or eligibility with proven experience in the production of development plans, and neighbourhood plans, with excellent communication and customer service skills.

The postholder will :

  • Be skilled in analysis of range of data, evidence, guidance and research material and the presentation of clear options and conclusions
  • Demonstrate strong organisational ability
  • Have strong written and oral communication skills suited to a wide range of audiences including members, PC, senior officers, stakeholders and members of the public
  • Be able to engage with the local community on planning matters including facilitating effective engagement in neighbourhood planning/orders
  • Be a strategic and innovative thinker
  • Be computer literate with well developed skills in MS software
  • Experience of using GIS would be an advantage
