Job Details

It's an exciting time to join East Suffolk, being the biggest district council in England, formed from the voluntary merger of two smaller districts

The Planning Service is central to the future success of the new Council, helping to shape and deliver the prosperity of the area, while keeping it a special and desirable place in which to live, work and visit. To support this ambition, the Planning team has recently grown and we now have new opportunities for you to join us. In return we can offer the right candidates significant opportunities to develop their careers with an award-winning service.

With an excellent track record in decision making and plan making, the Council has recently adopted and advanced Local Plans, providing an up-to-date strategic policy context for delivery to 2036.

The Planning Service has a huge variety of exciting projects, from delivering nationally significant infrastructure projects in the energy sector, supporting the regeneration of Lowestoft through the redevelopment of waterfront brownfield sites, to master planning garden neighbourhoods, developing coastal adaptation solutions, enhancing and sustaining market towns and villages, promoting the resort town and Port of Felixstowe, developing strategic policies and supporting neighbourhood planning. In addition there are significant pressures, and development opportunities, around the market towns and Ipswich, the county town of Suffolk. Growth and change of this diversity and scale needs to be sensitively managed to ensure it is delivered with the best possible infrastructure in place and potential impacts fully mitigated.

Additionally, a significant proportion of the district sits within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, adjacent to the Broads National Park and along a stunning coastline of pristine beaches and beautiful estuaries.

If you have the ability to deliver, lead, motivate and manage in our fast-paced environment and can develop the trust of a wide range of stakeholders and partners, then we want to hear from you.

Lowestoft is within a short distance of the historic, university city of Norwich, with Melton close to Ipswich and an hour’s train journey to London. No other district in the country is able to offer the successful candidates the quality of life, variety and breadth of planning opportunities and development in the country’s largest and newest district planning authority.

You will carry out a range of enforcement duties, as assigned by the Senior Enforcement Officer, taking account of relevant legislation, policies and the procedures of the Council, as well as assess and make recommendations ensuring awareness of enforcement background, site histories and present policies.

In return, we can offer great opportunities for training and development. We want you to stay with us for the long-term, so we’ll give you all the support we can to build a great career with our organisation. There’s also a superb benefits package including flexible working options and purpose-built, brand new office accommodation, as well as a generous leave entitlement, discount scheme, pension scheme and free car parking.
