Job Details

This is an exciting opportunity to join a small team of dedicated planners within an organisation whose aim is to work to improve our natural environment in Scotland and inspire everyone to care more about it.

The planning system plays a critical role in helping to tackle climate emergency and biodiversity loss and SNH planners aim to be at the forefront of the process to support the commitment for urgent action to transform how we live and work.

Job Purpose

The post provides a planning advice service to operational staff and SNH's key external partners, in line with SNH's approach to engagement in the planning system. In particular, this post will connect people, nature and development by:

  • Leading and coordinating our contribution to development plan-making (including supplementary guidance and master-plans) in Northern Scotland;
  • Providing advice to competent authorities on strategic environmental assessments (SEA and HRA);
  • Supporting efforts to build capacity in planning authorities, other public bodies and partnerships (including community planning partnerships) to take account of natural assets and the benefits of nature based solutions.
  • Providing specialist spatial planning advice on Planning legislation, national planning policy and the Scottish planning system to support other SNH Activities, such as coastal and marine planning and place-making.
