A fantastic opportunity for a Senior Town Planner to work for one of London's largest developers' developer that offers excellent career development and benefits. Working with the Land and Planning Team, you will meet regularly with all other departments, ranging from pre-construction to the Board. This provides an excellent platform for those that wish to work 'client side' or further their career in the housing industry. In addition, you will be given the necessary help from the Land and Planning Department to establish your role and further your experience working on some significant projects in London. Based out of their offices in Hertfordshire, regular travel to London is required.

The Company

A well-known residential developer operating across London. They are a 'hands-on' developer with in-house capabilities to acquire land, obtain planning and complete developments, therefore managing the full life-cycle of their developments.

They not only build apartments and houses, but schools, churches and commercial buildings as part of residential led mixed-use developments too. They have a significant portfolio and future pipeline that now requires an experienced planner/senior planner to support the Land and Planning Department.

As a key member of the team, you will be involved in sites from acquisition and helping with background research as part of the due diligence to help inform the purchase of sites. In addition, you will be tasked with assisting on major schemes they have acquired that are complex in nature and require pragmatic solutions in order to gain planning permission.

Therefore, planning expertise, a sound knowledge of the planning system, communication skills and attention to detail are essential.

The Role

  • Responsibility for preparing planning appraisals for new acquisitions.
  • Undertake research and analysis in preparing due diligence for potential acquisition sites.
  • Develop and maintain property contacts by establishing effective working relationships with GLA consultants, agents and local authorities, adding to the company's portfolio
  • Liaise and negotiate with consultants, planning officers and architects.
  • Assist the Head of Planning in the preparation of briefs to architects from feasibility stage through to planning instruction.
  • Ensure the briefs meets the financial and commercial objectives of the project.
  • Prepare planning applications, including planning statements.
  • Prepare and manage planning budgets for consultant fees.
  • Prepare and manage programmes to ensure preparation, submission and determination of planning applications is done in a timely and effective manner.
  • Prepare responses to consultation drafts of Local Plan, GLA, National Planning documents, legislation and good practice guidance reporting to Land and Planning Director and the wider team as appropriate.

 

The Person

You will be a highly motivated, presentable individual to join the successful Land and Planning team. You will need to demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and exhibit assertiveness and self-motivation in achievement of objectives.

 

  • 2 to 5 years' experience, ideally at a Consultancy or Developer
  • MRTPI qualification
  • Highly developed relationship management skills working closely with public land owners, planning consultants/architects and local authorities.
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Motivated to enhance understanding and knowledge in the wider property development industry.
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Assess and analyse information with an attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, particularly the ability to lead others with market knowledge and credibility.
