Torbay, the English Riviera, is the second largest urban area in Devon, with a population of over 135,000 people, a stunning coastal location, close to Dartmoor National Park and in easy reach of Exeter and with direct transport connections across the region and nationally.

Torbay can offer an unrivalled quality of life for individuals and families – its natural environment, clean air, climate, location, excellent schools, growing arts and cultural sector and wide range of outdoor activities means that Torbay can provide everyone with the opportunity to live a healthy and fulfilled life.

We are looking to recruit to a number of roles across Spatial Planning supporting the continued partnership work with the Devon Climate Emergency Response Group, updating, monitoring, and delivery of transport and planning policy matters, ensuring our built and natural environment is celebrated and playing our part in addressing the climate emergency.

As a Climate Emergency Officer you will work as part of our Strategy and Project Management Team but also across the Council to produce and monitor a strategic climate strategy with actions setting out the Council’s Climate Emergency response, and advising on the consistent and effective implementation of those policies and actions.  You will support the Council to work with the community and outside organisations to identify ways to make Torbay carbon neutral by 2030, taking into account both production and consumption emissions.

We believe this is an exciting opportunity and a great time to join the expanding team, helping Torbay to respond to the declaration of a Climate Emergency whilst recovering and repositioning itself in response to Covid-19.  This will suit an individual looking for a new challenge, the opportunity to shape the sustainable future of the bay, focused on supporting the production, delivery, and review of policy, and enjoying a good work-life balance in a naturally inspiring part of the UK.
