The County Council’s Planning services function is a professional service providing high quality technical field of planning delivering the County Council’s statutory regulatory planning function for Minerals, Waste and the County Council’s own development.  It is at the forefront of shaping social, economic and environmental development and well-being across the County.

An apprentice post has become available within the Council’s Planning Services team for an enthusiastic individual to learn about and undertake all forms of technical planning analysis and assessment work. 

The service is focussed on a number of priorities including determining minerals, waste and county development planning applications, providing an effective monitoring and enforcement service, delivering new minerals and waste local plans and supporting districts in their Local Plan preparation.  The service also lead on infrastructure planning and co-ordinating developer contributions for County Council strategic infrastructure.

Working within a number of project teams, you will be involved in a diverse and interesting range of activities across all three planning service areas that work together to deliver the corporate and statutory targets for Development Plans, Policy and Monitoring and Development Management.  

You will be expected to demonstrate appropriate numeracy and communication skills (both written and verbal) and to have a broad grasp of the principles and technical elements of core planning skills including research skills, problem solving, working within teams and good written, graphic and verbal communication
