Milton Keynes is rapidly expanding and the council has ambitious proposals to support the continued expansion of the country’s largest newt town. Following the adoption of our award winning Local Plan (Plan:MK), there is now a key focus on supporting the delivery of new housing and economic growth. This includes a new 5,000 home community to the east of the M1 and a 3,500 home expansion to the south east of the city. There are also ambitious proposals through a Growth Strategy that looks forward to 2050. The Development Management Manger is a key role that will make a critically important contribution to the delivery of these plans. Key Duties

  • Lead the Development Management team, which comprises two area teams and planning enforcement, to support continual improvement and deliver a high quality and effective service.
  • Ensure clear, accurate and relevant technical advice to senior managers, developers, agents, councillors, stakeholders, other departments within the Council and the general public, on planning applications, appeals and other related matters.
  • Co-ordinate the agendas and presentation of cases to the Development Control Committee/Panel and other working groups, forums or external meetings.

Experience, Qualifications and any Mandatory Requirements

  • A detailed and extensive knowledge of town planning legislation (including enforcement).
  • Experienced manager with the ability to lead and motivate.
  • Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute.

Skills Required

  • Possess the ability to develop effective working relationships and lead challenging negotiations with developers and other stakeholders.
  • The capability to interpret legislation and complex decisions, and respond positively and constructively to questions at Committee meetings and Public Inquiries.
  • Able to significantly contribute to continuous improvement and respond positively to changes and support others in coping with change, demonstrates a flexible approach to problem solving.
