Wrexham County Borough Council is looking to recruit a Planning Officer to primarily work in Development Management and will be expected to deal with a wide and varied caseload. The post also provides an opportunity undertake policy related work as and when required although the main emphasis of the role will be in Development Management.

Located on the North East border of Wales with England, Wrexham County offers a dynamic and diverse mix of urban and rural life with Wrexham being the largest town in North Wales. Accommodating new growth in the County will be a challenge and we are looking to recruit an experienced Town Planner to help shape the sustainable future of the County.

The candidate must have experience of dealing with a wide range of planning enquiries and applications and be adept at giving evidence at Informal Hearings and/or Public Inquiries. You will need to have a keen customer focus and experience working with members of the public and all stakeholders involved in the planning process, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills.

You will be a strong team player with a real desire to make further improvement happen and take initiative. You will also have self-organisation and strong IT skills and be able to cope with pressures and deadlines and appreciate the benefits of team work.

Your track record and approach in all of these areas are as important as your experience or qualifications.

The successful candidate will need to be confident in their own ability and have a good understanding of current planning legislation. Good communication skills and an ability to engage with a range of stakeholders is essential.

With a degree in Town Planning and preferably a chartered member of the RTPI, the post holder will need to be able to demonstrate sound knowledge of planning policy in Wales and have excellent communication, report writing and project management skills. Understanding the importance of the Welsh Language and Culture as well as knowledge of equality and diversity is also essential.
