Appointment of a Deputy Chief Commissioner

The Department of Justice (DoJ) is seeking to appoint a Deputy Chief Commissioner to The Planning and Water Appeals Commissions (PACWAC).

The Planning Appeals Commission and Water Appeals Commission are Tribunal Non-Departmental Public Bodies sponsored by the DoJ and are administratively supported by the Northern Ireland Courts and Tribunals Service. They have a range of statutory functions relating to planning and environmental matters.

The Deputy Chief Commissioner is one of the most senior sources of professional expertise in the Commissions. The post holder must lead, direct and fully understand the work of the Commissions. The post requires strong decision making skills and a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of planning policy and legislation as it is applied within a tribunal context. It is a highly pressurised role which requires personal commitment and drive for the achievement of results.

This is a full-time, permanent appointment.

The Commissions are currently located at Park House, Belfast and it is the normal office location for the Deputy Chief Commissioner.

Remuneration will be in the range of £61,152 - £64,779 (currently under review) per annum. The Deputy Chief Commissioner also receives a 5% responsibility allowance.

This competition may be used to fill this vacancy should it arise again in the next 12 months.
