Job Details

The South Downs National Park offers a distinctive and fulfilling environment in which to develop your career. As one of the largest planning authorities in the country with an area covering over 100 miles from the edge of Winchester to Eastbourne, and over 5,000 applications a year, it is easy to see why this is such a challenging but rewarding environment.

The unique nature of the South Downs National Park, due to its size and scale and the number of large settlements within its boundaries (including Lewes and Petersfield), offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of major planning applications and other projects.

Working in our Major Projects Team, you will manage a case load of some of the most important and complex planning applications in the National Park as well as providing planning advice to our organisation and others in order to help drive major projects forward (including helping with the identification and delivery of projects through the spending of the Authority’s Community Infrastructure Levy).

We need a dedicated and experienced town planner with the knowledge and skills to deal with a wide variety of challenging applications and projects in a sensitive landscape.

Does this sound like a new and varied challenge for you? Do you believe you can add real value to the job? If you do and if you meet the person specification, then we look forward to receiving your application.

The South Downs National Park sits in a beautiful part of Southern England, and being in the South it is in one of the most economically vibrant areas in the UK, after London.  This means a lot of challenges for our planning team.  Working in a unique partnership with 10 local authorities within the National Park boundaries we must ensure we achieve the right balance between environmental, social and economic outcomes and that future developments in the park are managed sympathetically meeting the needs of the whole community – residents; visitors and businesses.  They must achieve all this within the framework of protecting the natural environment, diversity and unique beauty of the landscape.
