Graduate Planner

Overview:

If you are a University Graduate or have completed a Level 7 Diploma and have a keen interest in Planning & Environment, this could be the role for you.

By joining us as a Graduate Planner at Buckinghamshire Council, you’ll not only be offered a competitive benefits package, you’ll also gain invaluable experience and potentially extra qualifications to help you kick-start your career. Through our excellent training programme, we’ll support you to process and determine planning applications and provide a high-quality service that is responsive to our customer demands.

About the role:

Working as part of a friendly team on a wide variety of complex projects, you’ll be based in our Buckinghamshire offices, where you’ll undertake hands-on-training and development to gain an overall understanding of how our planning processes work. Throughout your time here, you’ll develop skills which will help shape your career as a Planner, including commercial awareness, great customer service skills and the legislation and regulations expertise required to excel in your profession.

As you grow with us, you’ll start dealing with more specialist planning applications and will assist with Public Inquiries, Informal Hearings and prosecutions.

Career development is something we take seriously at Bucks; we love nothing more than seeing our colleagues grow and develop with us, with many of our graduates progressing quickly as they gain more experience and responsibilities within their specialist areas.

Daniel, a Planner at Buckinghamshire Council, said: ‘I started at BC as a Graduate Planner three years ago. There have been so many great opportunities offered to me so far. I am currently studying for my Master’s Degree which is being supported by the Council. There is so much to get involved in, such as working on mainstream infrastructure and applications; we’re also quite blessed in the fact that we work in a diverse area, which offers both urban and rural experiences.’

We are committed to building our exceptional Planning Team, utilising our colleagues’ talent and making the most of what they have to offer. Our recent transformation to a Unitary Council is already creating opportunities across the service and we are excited to see what is to come. In this rewarding and fulfilling role, you’ll see the impact of your work in front of you as you help shape the future of Buckinghamshire for generations to come.

Skills & Experience/About You:

Naturally, you’ll have good communication skills and be comfortable talking to people of different levels. You’ll come to us with a keen interest in planning and environmental issues, and be ready to grow and learn from our established team.

Other information:

Our response as an employer to Covid-19 has shaped the way we want to work in the future. Microsoft Teams, Skype and vlogs from our Senior Leadership Team have all played their part in allowing us to become even more flexible in how, when and where our teams work.

There will be times where you’ll need to be in the office, whether that’s for meeting clients or collaborating with peers; but we actively encourage our colleagues to adopt a flexible working approach and take control of their own work-life balance.

If that’s not enough reason to join us, you’ll be entitled to a range of benefits from Buckinghamshire Council including a minimum of 25 days annual leave allowance per year; a flex-time scheme; discounts in local shops, restaurants and gyms; and very competitive employer pension contribution
