Graduate/Assistant Planner
Job Details
Persimmon Homes Severn Valley based in Portishead, North Somerset, require a motivated and enthusiastic graduate or assistant planner looking to develop their career to join their land team. Reporting to the Strategic Planning Manager and Land Director, you will be part of a small yet busy team seeking to find new sites for residential development as well as implementing strategies in place to promote and obtain planning consent on strategic sites the region already has control of. You will be exposed to a wide range of planning and land related tasks including, but not limited to:
- In the context of understanding the basic principles of planning policy, surveying settlements to identify locations with future growth potential and presenting this graphically to the team with support from the Strategic Planning Manager, writing representations to planning policy consultations across the local authority areas which the region covers, commenting on any elements within those policies which will impact on the company as well as promoting sites the region controls.
- Supporting the Strategic Planning Manager in co-ordinating planning applications. This will involve writing reports, setting up and managing budgets, managing a team of consultants.
- Monitoring both emerging planning policy and planning applications across the region and reporting to the team.
Qualifications/Experience
You will be expected to have knowledge of the English planning system including both the planning application and planning policy processes, knowledge which can be developed in the role under the stewardship of the Strategic Planning Manager. Ideally you will have completed an RTPI accredited qualification in town planning or such related course and through this role, with support from the Strategic Planning Manager, will work towards RTPI accreditation through the successful completion of your RTPI Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) achieving chartered status. Candidates without such a qualification, but with experience in a planning related role and the hunger, enthusiasm and motivation to develop will however be considered.
Skills
The successful candidate will have good written, interpersonal and organisational skills and enter each task with motivation and enthusiasm, with a desire to learn and develop.
You must also have a full UK driving licence as your work will involve driving to meetings as well as conducting site visits as part of your site searching work.
