You will work alongside colleagues in Planning and our Economic Development and Regeneration teams in a local authority with a strong commitment to good planning and development, as well as with a range of external partners including North Yorkshire County Council and neighbouring Local Authorities.

We are continuing to invest in the Planning Service and are looking for ambitious and enthusiastic people to complete our team.  You may be a newly qualified planner or seeking opportunities to further develop your career. You may not currently work in planning but have qualifications in a related discipline and can demonstrate the skills and experience required for the posts.

Senior Planning Policy Officer

Contract Type – Permanent

Salary Band – 3b

Annual Salary – £32,234 per annum

Hours – 37 per week

What’s the job?

You will be dealing with a varied workload which includes the preparation of a range of policy documents such as the Local Plan, Infrastructure Delivery Plan, Supplementary Planning Documents, Neighbourhood Plans and key evidence-based documents.

The postholder will provide support to the Principal Planning Policy Officer primarily on matters relating to infrastructure and communities, however you will be involved in a wide range of planning issues. This will include support on the delivery of strategic development sites, working closely with colleagues from departments across the Council and external partners.

Who are we looking for?

You will have:

  • A degree or post-graduate qualification in Planning (or a closely related subject) and be eligible for full membership of the relevant professional body.
  • Good knowledge of relevant planning legislation, guidance and procedures.
  • Experience in the preparation of Development Plans and Supplementary Planning Documents.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
