Development Manager

£51,900 - £59,327 p.a. dependent on experience

We are seeking an ambitious planning professional who is ready to hit the ground running in the role of Development Manager at Runnymede Borough Council. This exciting opportunity has arisen due to the upcoming retirement of our current long-standing Development Manager.

It is an excellent time to join Runnymede with a very recently adopted Local Plan which provides significant opportunities to work on large and interesting projects. Our aim is to deliver growth in a way that respects and maintains the character of Runnymede and delivers infrastructure and services to support it. The potential expansion of Heathrow and the planned delivery of a major flood alleviation scheme in the Borough all present opportunities to broaden your planning skillset and contribute to the Council’s success.

As Development Manager you play an important part in the management and leadership of the service and will also deputise for the Corporate Head of Development Management & Building Control.

The successful applicant is likely to be a talented planner who can provide positive and effective leadership to their team, can handle complex and sensitive matters with skill and sensitivity and can work well in a multi-disciplinary context. You must have the ability to provide clear professional advice to Elected Members and maintain good working relationships with them. You will be MRTPI qualified and be able to demonstrable experience of working in development management.

Along with in-depth knowledge of development management and planning enforcement you will have a proven track record of being an effective manager of people and budgets, a good negotiator, and ideally have previous experience of wide range of planning issues.

Personal qualities are just as important as professional skills. The successful candidate must work in a highly collaborative way with other functions, be persuasive while respecting the views of others, possess tact and diplomacy, be resilient and handle stressful situations well.

In addition to a competitive salary, Runnymede Borough Council offers:

  • Generous annual leave of up to 28 days subject to length of service
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Health care scheme (after 3 years’ RBC service)
  • Payment of professional fees
  • Discounted gym membership
  • Where applicable, a relocation benefits package and mortgage/rental equalisation scheme

Our modern offices, based in Surrey on the edge of London, are in Addlestone town centre which is on the main line to London Waterloo and with easy access from the M3 and M25.

Access to free parking for part of the week is also available and wellbeing activities such as yoga, led walks and table tennis take place on site and gym facilities are located nearby. Addlestone also has a new cinema, restaurants, and a Waitrose within walking distance.
