Principal Planning Officer

£43,160 - £50,230 per annum

About the role and our team

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Chartered Planner to join our team as a Principal Planning Officer within the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture on the Isle of Man.

Within this role you will contribute to our ambitious Programme for Government, to ensure Planning helps to drive sustainable economic growth, respond to changing population pressures, and keep the Island a special place to live and work.

You will manage a personal workload of cases relating to a range of developments involving town centre redevelopments, new housing estates, rural building conversions, tourist sites and minerals and waste. As part of this, you will have the opportunity to present to the Planning Committee and represent the Department at appeal hearings.

Using your knowledge and leadership skills you will line manage two officers and provide advice and support to other members of the team, and determine applications under delegated powers.

You will be joining our small, supportive Development Management Team, within the Planning and Building Control Directorate, who enjoy sharing ideas and knowledge with each other. If this sounds like something you’d want to be part of, we’d love to hear from you.

What can this role offer me?

Developing our team to be the best they can be is important to us and we actively support your own personal career goals, aspirations and development. This includes the use of our Learning, Education and Development Centre.

If working flexibly is important to you, you’ll be happy to know we operate a flexi-time system making it easier to reclaim any additional hours worked and to fit your other commitments around your work life.

About the Island and relocating

The Isle of Man has a unique and very special environment. It is the only country-wide Biosphere Reserve, has the world’s longest running continuous parliament and is home to the famous TT Road Races.

Here you can enjoy a fantastic quality of life, and an excellent work-life balance! There are plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities; so if you like walking, mountain biking, sailing or kayaking, you’ll have lots of places to explore!

There are also lots of great cafes, bars and restaurants, and you can enjoy the Island’s real sense of community. The island is well connected to the UK, and you’ll also benefit from low income tax rates (20% maximum rate).

To find out more about the Island and the lifestyle you could enjoy here, take a look at Locate Isle of Man’s guide to moving to the Isle of Man here.

If you are relocating or returning to the Island, you can also benefit from the Insurance Holiday Scheme, which allows you to apply for a refund on your NI contributions for your 1st year of living here.
