As a UK Core City, innovative and forward-thinking Planning is front and centre of our approach to Building Back Better. Reporting to the Director, City Growth you will play a pivotal role within the council leading our Planning function and supporting Council wide Workforce Development activity. You will lead on the development of our new Local Plan as well as shaping and supporting our themed approach to  improving service outcomes and organisational change. You will help create the right operating models and responses to enable us to be ready to meet the demanding challenges ahead.

We are looking for an experienced leader with a strong Planning background to drive and align our resources and corporate contribution through clear and focussed service leadership. This a key role combining both delivery of a busy planning department and strategy of a new local plan, place making and neighbourhood development. Operating within the Senior Leadership Team and building on your Planning expertise to quickly gain the trust of key stakeholders and staff, you will provide the confidence that you can lead our Planning service operationally and strategically whilst maintaining and building upon progress already underway. You will be able to demonstrate a depth of experience to develop and lead our Planning team. You will possess a good understanding of the context in which local authorities operate having worked within or alongside a public service organisation.
