Principal Planner - Planning Enforcement Team Leader

Starting at £46,458 p.a. increasing to £ 49,502 p.a

If you thrive on action, you will love Dartford.  Working for an ambitious authority that is well and truly on the map, no two days will be the same.  Located outside the edge of London, we have exciting proposals to transform Dartford town centre and a range of employment, leisure and residential schemes coming forward across the Borough.

With high levels of development taking place, we are strongly committed to protecting and preserving the character of treasured parts of the Borough, such as Conservation Areas and Green Belt.  We also strive to make sure that the planning permissions built out comply with the approved details and conditions, so that the quality of the buildings and spaces live up to our high standards.

Leading and managing a recently expanded enforcement team and working closely with Development Management, you will ensure that unplanned development does not undermine our aims. We have a number of complex planning and enforcement cases to resolve so a good track record of dealing with these is a must.  A good knowledge of Planning legislation is required as well as a strong understanding of the tools and processes that can be employed in planning enforcement.

This is a new post and we are looking for a qualified planner to fill this role in order to provide planning advice to the enforcement team together with the necessary experience to determine the more complex enforcement-related planning applications.

This is a high profile role which generates a lot of interest from Councillors and residents.  You will need to be diplomatic but firm, exercise strong judgement and have good people skills.   You will also have a knack for investigation, be well-organised and determined to see things through to a conclusion.  In managing the Enforcement Team, you will need to motivate and support your team to achieve positive outcomes.

If you enjoy a challenge and like to make a positive difference in your work, we would love to hear from you.

Benefits

Career average pension scheme, professional fee payment, flexible working including some home working, free on-site parking, employee benefits package and generous leave entitlement.

The Council’s offices are in a highly accessible location, next to Dartford station with frequent services from Central London (Oyster Card coverage) and North Kent.  Road connections via the M25 and A2 are also excellent.

Interviews will be held on 11th May 2021
