Senior Planning Officer

We are looking for an experienced Planning Officer who is self-motivated and able to work in a pressured environment as a specialist-planning professional to join Lancashire County Council as we continue to develop and deliver a programme of major transport infrastructure investment.

About us:

We are a dedicated, multi-disciplinary team established providing environmental planning services, civil engineering, and transport planning to deliver an ambitious programme of works.

Through the Preston, South Ribble and Lancashire City Deal we are well underway in delivering largest coordinated investment in highway and transport infrastructure in Lancashire for forty years. Funded by City Deal capital investment exceeding £350 million, we've been busy delivering three major road schemes, including the recently completed Penwortham Bypass, public transport improvements and public realm enhancements across Central Lancashire to support housing development and economic growth in the Preston city region.

Following the County Council's award of the Transforming Cities Funding bid from DfT, we are working on a park and ride railway station in the Preston city region.

Additionally, following the County Council's submission of the Homes Infrastructure Fund bid to MHCLG we are gearing up to deliver an ambitious programme of schemes promoting sustainable travel in Lancaster.

About the role:

The successful candidate will be working as part of the planning section of this highly skilled, multi-disciplinary team whose responsibility is to prepare and submit the planning applications for major infrastructure projects and deliver these projects through to construction ensuring compliance with the conditions of the planning consents.

You will have opportunity to write the supporting documents for the Environmental Statement of planning applications, the Planning Statement, the Design and Access Statement, undertake public consultations and submit applications for discharge of planning conditions.

You can expect to be active on a number of projects at any given time – these can vary in both scale and nature, making the workload extremely interesting.

You will work in collaboration with other specialist disciplines and will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of schemes, research projects, and innovative, technically challenging work, reporting to the team's Principal Planner.

About you:

You will have a relevant planning or environmental degree or similar and have several years post qualification relevant experience in the public or private sector.

You will have excellent report writing skills and be highly organised. You will have strong communication skills and a thorough knowledge of planning processes and legislation. You will have good creative thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills. You will have the ability to both work as part of a team and manage an individual workload.

You will be chartered member of the RTPI or equivalent

If you are an experienced planning professional, this will be a unique opportunity to join an exciting,

forward thinking team and take your career to the next level.
