Great Yarmouth Borough Council is an ambitious local authority with big plans for the future and significant opportunities ahead.

With one of the most successful Enterprise Zones in the country, Great Yarmouth is England’s offshore energy hub and Norfolk’s biggest seaside resort at the edge of the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads. The borough also contains a wealth of historic buildings, the thriving seaside town of Gorleston, attractive rural villages and forms part of the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The Council is involved in a wide range of development and regeneration projects within the town centre and both the offshore energy and tourism sectors. Recent successful bids to both the Town Deal and Future High Street Funds have accelerated the ambition into delivery. Significant infrastructure developments are also progressing with a major Third River Crossing opening in early 2023.

The Council has recently progressed its Local Plan (Part 2) through Examination and we will shortly be commencing a full review of the Local Plan this summer.

We are looking for an experienced leader to help us shape the way we work and transform how we do business. You will be responsible for the delivery of high-quality services across your teams as well as playing a key corporate role as a member of the Council’s management team.

The Head of Planning will lead the Development Management, Strategic Planning, Building Control and Land Charge services. We can offer you a varied and challenging role with opportunities for professional development.

You must be qualified to degree level in Town Planning (or equivalent) and be a full corporate member of the RTPI with a proven track record of delivery. Professional subscription fees will be paid by the Council.
