About the Job

London City Airport's planned £500m investment in the City Airport Development Programme and their normal operations is partly controlled and regulated by the Local Planning Authority.  The primary function of this post is to work with London City Airport to facilitate compliance with their planning permission and deed of planning obligation.

In keeping with the Council's declaration of climate emergency, delivering upon the air quality action plan and supporting employment opportunities for our local residents this role is critical in ensuring London City Airport contribute towards the Council's priorities.

This post requires a breadth of knowledge about and experience of Planning; sustainability issues; Environmental Control matters including noise and air quality; economic regeneration with a focus on skills and employability programmes; complaint handling; and political awareness.

This is a post which requires collaboration and empathy with a range of internal and external stakeholders, Members, residents and professional consultants amongst others.  Procuring and managing consultants to support the review of technical submissions will also be a key accountability of this role.

This post is funded by a deed of planning obligation with London City Airport and daily interaction will be typical although the post remains an impartial role accountable to the residents of Newham via the Council's governance and legislative requirements.

This post is the key point of contact for any and all enquiries related to London City Airport and contributes to the Council's wider position on aviation development.

About You

We are looking for a candidate with a keen eye for detail but who sees how their role contributes to the Council's wider priorities.

Successful candidates will be politically astute with an appreciation of London and national politics and their implications for aviation development and spatial planning.

You should be familiar of working within and thriving in a busy working environment often with conflicting priorities and working with minimal supervision.  You will be confident in making sound judgments and robustly justifying any recommendations to other officers where authority is needed from them.
