Planning Policy Officer (Local Plans)

£26,511 - £27,041 pa*

Temporary / Secondment for 2 years.

*potentially rising through annual performance review awards.

West Suffolk are seeking a highly self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our small yet dynamic Planning Policy team to assist in the delivery of a high-quality Planning service across West Suffolk.

The main focus of this role is to assist in the preparation, adoption and delivery of the Local Plan. This will be achieved by preparing background documents and evidence to support policy preparations and preparing and assisting in the preparation of supplementary planning documents, development briefs and masterplans.

You will be required to assist with the consultation and engagement process related to the preparation of policy documents, and record and summarise representations following consultation and engagement to make policy recommendations. You will be required to liaise with outside bodies/stakeholders/interested individuals/expert bodies and statutory consultees in the preparation of the policy framework and attend and present papers to Working Groups, Cabinet, Portfolio Holders, as required.

We are looking for a qualified Planner with a planning degree or related subject and be eligible for RTPI membership. You will have up to date knowledge of planning legislation and experience of working in a busy planning office.

However, we will consider offering a role as a career opportunity for a Planning Graduate, or you may be a Planner experienced in Development Management and wishing to broaden your expertise and skills in a new area.

This post is temporary for two years and therefore this may be of interest as a secondment either from the private sector or another local authority.

You will have a 'can do' attitude who enjoys working as part of a busy team but also a self-starter. You must have a flexible approach and a willingness to acquire new skills. Attention to detail with problem-solving abilities are key, together with good interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Site visits may be required therefore you will need the ability to travel around the area.
