Principal Planning Officer (Development Management)

Salary up to £43,751.76 pa

Ref PPO

The Borough of Broxbourne is in south east Hertfordshire, just north of London and the M25, with a population of 96,000. It is an attractive place to live and work and is just 25 minutes from Liverpool Street and Stratford International stations by train. There is also good access to airports and the rest of the UK.

This is a very exciting time to join Broxbourne Borough Council’s planning team. Following the recent adoption of the Local Plan, the Borough has a number of major developments underway and is anticipating the imminent submission of many more major planning applications.

If you are interested in enhancing your experience of managing applications for largescale residential, commercial, retail and leisure developments, then this role is for you. The Council is seeking an enthusiastic Planner to join the Development Management team. You will have the skills and experience necessary to enhance the quality of developments in Broxbourne, working as a case officer for a range of high profile planning applications.

If you feel this is the role for you, you should be a chartered member of the RTPI with previous experience managing major applications. You must have strong design skills, be an excellent communicator with the ability to independently write clear and concise reports and the ability to provide mentorship to junior officers and deputise for the Development Management Service Manager where necessary.

Above all, you must be able to demonstrate that they will make a positive difference to Broxbourne.

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in fluent English is essential in this post.

The successful candidate will require a full driving license to undertake site visits around the Borough. Officers are mainly based at home currently due to the pandemic and flexible working arrangements will be considered.

We are committed to safer recruitment, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The benefits package includes generous leave entitlement, a full training and development programme, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and free membership to the Council’s local leisure centres, which includes free access to gyms, swimming pools, fitness classes, racket sport sessions, a health suite and a range of generous discounts across other leisure and culture services.

Details and application forms for all job vacancies are listed on the Council’s website.

Application forms must be submitted online by 27th June 2021 (quoting the above reference).
