About the role

We are looking for a Team Leader (Planning Services) who has the drive to meet challenges head on, as well as someone who can work successfully with our Stakeholders and Clients. You will act as the Service Specialist in relation to both development management (including being the Service Lead on the most complex, controversial and/or high profile of applications) and the formulation of minerals and waste planning policy.

In addition, you will plan and co-ordinate work programmes for staff ensuring effective team working arrangements within Planning Services.

In order to be successful in this role, it is essential that you:

•           Hold a post-graduate Town Planning qualification

•           Have attained Charter membership of the RTPI

•           Significant experience of managing, leading and developing a Team.

About you

You will have proven ability to manage and develop staff, through training, coaching and performance management. You have excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills and commitment to continuous improvement in all aspects of Planning.

You are naturally self-motivated with the ability to deal with conflicting demands whilst meeting tight deadlines .You will also have a sound understanding and knowledge of transportation policy, legislation, and initiatives at local, regional and national levels.

With strong IT skills, you are adept at Microsoft Office packages, and possess the required analytical skills to analyse information and produce detailed reports for presentation in public forums.

What we can offer

In return for your hard work and dedication to our service, we can offer you the chance to be part of a strong and supportive team. You will also benefit from a variety of competitive employee rewards such as generous leave entitlement, local government pension scheme and access to Childcare Vouchers, which is just one of a range of salary sacrifice schemes available.

Whilst the position will be based at Northallerton, as a modern council the role offers the opportunity to work flexibly at alternative locations across our hubs within North Yorkshire as well as home working. The flexibility of the hours allow for a positive work/life balance.
