Senior/Principal Planning Consultant

JBA are looking for an experienced, dynamic planner willing to work on a variety of projects…

We are looking for an experienced Planning Consultant, to join our Newcastle Team (or our alternative offices in Saltaire or Newport) on a permanent contract. As part of our dynamic planning team, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of exciting and varied projects for the Environment Agency, local authorities and private sector clients throughout the UK. Our planning team has a national remit that will provide the successful candidate with an interesting and challenging workload, and the opportunity to work on a range of projects including flood and coastal erosion risk management.

You will be responsible for managing multi-disciplinary technical teams, co-ordinating the submission of a range of planning applications for a variety of schemes and advising on the promotion of strategic land. You will have the opportunity to win your own business and will play an important part in the growth of our team.

You will also be involved with:

  • Preparation of planning appraisals, applications and appeal statements and other formal written advice.
  • Contributing to the formulation of client planning strategies, including identifying potential planning risks and opportunities, and contributing to the formulation of project programmes.
  • Developing new client relationships and assisting with the management of existing key clients.
  • Leading on the day-to-day management of projects.
  • Liaising with Council officers, stakeholders and members of the public.
  • Attending and contributing to client and project team meetings.
  • Attending and presenting at Council Planning Committee meetings and attending public consultation events.
  • Supporting the Environment Agency/SEPA/NRW in their statutory consultee role in relation to planning applications and strategic plans.

Location:

The post can be based in either Newcastle NE1 5JE, Saltaire BD18 3LF or Newport NP20 1FQ offices.

Key competencies required for the role:

You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, a successful history of dealing with clients at all levels, and a passion for quality and excellence of service.

Who we are looking for:

The successful candidate will ideally be RTPI Chartered (or working towards Chartership) and have experience ideally gained through a career in either a local authority or private consultancy. You will have a degree (or equivalent) or a postgraduate qualification accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
