Influencing the sustainable recovery of nature in England could be your most rewarding role yet. Because everything’s better with nature. You included.

At Natural England, we advise the UK Government on the natural environment. We’re here to make sure people and nature can thrive. From collaborating on sustainable development and nature recovery, to shaping strategic plans for nature-rich places, to enabling more diverse people to connect with nature, we love what we do. Join us and you’ll be part of an inclusive, motivated and ambitious team, committed to achieving results for our environment, for everyone.

As Senior Adviser - Strategic Plans for Places, you’ll play a vital part in shaping strong partnerships with local authorities and other plan-makers, so we can help embed nature into all kinds of place-based plans. You will take a lead on working with our partners to progress the sustainable development and recovery of nature in England. Right now we’re recruiting to a range of roles which focus on different key areas - from local nature recovery strategy, to green infrastructure; from biodiversity net gain, to strategic solutions for protected sites. All roles offer you the opportunity to bring people and nature together in an inclusive and collaborative way.

To join us, you will need a relevant degree or equivalent level of experience. With proven knowledge and experience of working within the statutory planning system, you understand exactly how nature is incorporated into planning. You’ll bring to the role demonstrable knowledge of how strategic plans can help enhance natural capital through a range of mechanisms. Crucially, you are a highly skilled and collaborative communicator. And you know how to engage people and build partnerships, to foster nature recovery and embed sustainability.

We welcome and encourage applications from all communities and, wherever possible, we accommodate requests for both full and part-time hours and other flexible working patterns. Everyone at Natural England is supported to develop their skills and capabilities. You can also look forward to great benefits including a Civil Service pension.

If you’re inspired to protect and enhance England’s wildlife, and want to work for a leading science-led organisation, apply here.
