Strategic Planning and Infrastructure

How would you like to balance an amazing quality of life with working in a multi-award winning planning service, one that has just become a joint winner of the RTPI’s LPA planning team of the year?

Plymouth is Britain’s Ocean City, located on the stunning south coast of England, with spectacular views of Plymouth Sound just 5 minutes’ walk away from our offices. Plymouth is the venue for the Sail GP Season two, the British Firework Championships and is bidding to be the UK’s first National Marine Park. Our City Centre, with is famous beaux-arts style introduced in the Abercrombie plan, boasts: great shopping at Drake Circus and the West End independent quarter; superb leisure facilities at the recently-opened Barcode and a vibrant mix of cinema, cafes, bars and restaurants; a world class cultural offer, with Plymouth’s Theatre Royal as the largest and best attended regional producing theatre in the UK, and ‘The Box’ as our brand new £46m museum, art gallery and cultural centre. That’s before you discover the historic Barbican, Royal William Yard, Dartmoor and wide range of beaches to enjoy on your door step!

Plymouth City Council is a dynamic forward thinking authority committed to helping the city reach its full potential. Planning plays a key role in this agenda, delivering ambitious vision for Plymouth set out in our Joint Local Plan.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Strategic Developments Team, a highly experienced team charged with driving forward the City’s ambitious growth agenda through partnership working and proactive planning. As one of the more senior planning officers in the team, you will lead the development management process on strategic sites, drive forward the delivery of schemes, and be involved in policy formation and the review of the local plan. The successful candidate will work on some of the City’s most important development projects, such as City Centre regeneration schemes, new mixed use communities, a major commercial centre in Derriford, and major waterfront regeneration sites.

We are looking for a proactive and delivery-minded candidate with experience of navigating strategic projects through the development management process to high quality outcomes. Good project management skills and an excellent approach to partnership working and customer service will be required. Membership of the RTPI or an appropriate professional institute, or eligibility and willingness to start the process of applying for such membership within 6 months, is essential for this position.
