We are an ambitious Council, located in the heart of ‘1066 Country’ in South East England. Over 80% of Rother District lies within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and, as a result, it has a rich and an attractive mixture of town and countryside, where the protection and enhancement of trees, woodlands and the landscape have a high priority.

The Council receives a wide variety of development proposals including significant housing developments and challenging redevelopment and infill schemes. The Borough presents a diverse range of planning interest and issues. A substantial proportion lies with the AONB and Conservation Areas and Listed Buildings also figure significantly in our work. The consideration of trees and landscapes associated with these developments and applications is very important.

We are looking to appoint a Tree Officer, an exciting opportunity within our Development Management team. Key duties of the post will include dealing with all aspects of tree preservation, dealing with hedgerows and high hedge matters, and providing specialist advice to planning and enforcement case officers to ensure that tree matters are taken fully into consideration throughout the planning process.

You will have a high degree of knowledge and experience of tree matters within the planning system, a clear understanding of current tree related legislation and policy and be skilled at assessing development proposals and their impacts on trees, hedgerows and other landscaping. You should possess enthusiasm, be well motivated, have excellent communication skills, and independently managing your own workload whilst positively engaging with the wider team and District Councillors.

We are willing to consider a range of flexible working patterns. Applicants are invited to indicate their preferred working pattern as part of their application and would be welcome to contact us to discuss the options that are available.

If you would like an informal discussion regarding this vacancy, please contact Samuel Batchelor, Development Manager on: (01424) 787615 or via email: Samuel.Batchelor@rother.gov.uk
