Job Details

Southwark Council is an ambitious central London authority, which is home to some of the largest and most exciting developments in the country. The Planning and Growth Division is looking to recruit qualified and experienced officers to deal with major planning applications in the busy Development Management Unit. There is the prospect of challenging but highly rewarding work for the successful candidates.

We are looking for an experienced planner to join a busy Development Management team, taking a leading role in a wide range of projects from major cases and large regeneration schemes to one of the country’s most innovative council house building programmes.  You may be an experienced supervisor looking for a fresh challenge or a planner looking for your first supervisory role.  An important part of the role will be to provide consultancy advice to other council departments, shaping development proposals from the start.

Managing a diverse caseload, you will represent the council and use your experience in negotiations to achieve the best outcomes for the community.  You will provide support to elected members and senior officers and use your sound judgement to make reasoned and considered recommendations on complex matters, and to present cases to the Planning Committee.

In return, we offer the opportunity for you to grow as a leader with a well-respected leadership development programme; a modern work environment with hybrid working from home and our attractive offices at London Bridge, along with the chance to be involved in an exciting range of projects which have the power to transform our part of London.

For an informal discussion about this opportunity, please contact Dipesh Patel on 020 7525 1778.

We particularly encourage and welcome applicants from black, Asian and ethnic minorities since we are underrepresented at management level and are passionate about making improvements in this space.

If you think you have the right values, experience and expertise to add to our culture, please do not hesitate to apply.
